Baker City is located in extreme eastern Oregon.  Considered the High desert, Baker City has warm sunny days and cold nights in the summer and snow in the winter.  This town is located about 70 miles west of Idaho and 310 miles east of Portland Oregon.

Baker County's theme is "Living the Dream".  We have a beautiful 18 hole Golf Course, Fishing, Hunting, and spectacular views of the Mountains. Main Street has beautiful old historic buildings.

Baker Towers is one of the tallest building east of the Cascade mountains. Geiser Grand Hotel holds doecent tours during the summer months. The town of Sumpter has a historic Steam train that runs during the summer months while you are in Sumpter you can visit The Sumpter dredge used for dredging up gold-bearing gravel. The last time it was in operation was in 1954.

 

 

 

 

 

Hells Canyon Dam is appro. 2 1/2 hours away from Baker City. Great fishing, viewing wildlife, rafting or just take a drive to view the incredible scenery.

Area attractions include:

 National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center Located at the summit of Flagstaff hill, the center overlooks a preserved link of the Oregon Trail.

Sumpter Valley Railway. The Historic narrow-gauge train operates along Hwy 7 between McEwen and Sumpter.  Passengers may view a variety of wildlife.  The train runs from May through September.

Sumpter Valley Dredge State Heritage Area.  The area features one of the largest and most accessible gold dredges in the USA. Self guided tours of the dredge, and hiking and fishing sites are available.
